Cheap Decor...

I'm an absolute cheapskate and I have no problem admitting it! I really don't like paying more for anything than I have to. Take this area of my living room, for example...

Almost everything you see was either free or very inexpensive. The lamp and lampshade were both purchased from Goodwill for 99 cents each (on separate shopping trips). The frame (with school pictures of our girls mounted on scrapbook paper) was a freebie passed along from a friend. You may remember the chair from an earlier post...it too was purchased from Goodwill for only $4.99. I jazzed it up with bargain fabrics, a couple of fabric napkins and some trim (all with a glue gun!). You also might remember that trash picked ottoman...it was burnt orange corduroy in its 'before' life. I sewed the pillows from more bargain fabric, a napkin and a women's decorative scarf.

You'll save a lot of money and have one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories just by learning to look at things with a new perspective. Re-purpose that old table and chair to match your decor! Take a junk piece and give it a fresh coat of paint. The possibilities are endless...frames, lamps, vases, mirrors - and the list goes on! Be creative, be imaginative, be a risk taker...remember, you are the one you have to please! (You can always change it if you don't like the results). Surround yourself with the things you love and you can never go wrong in decorating :)

  1. Amen girlfriend!

The best thing about inexpensive decorating... two things.. you can change it around and not feel bad for spending too much... AND if anything happens to your stuff (ie: a stain, a rip, or just wear and tear) --- it didn't cost a fortune, and if gives you a reason to go after another project! HA!

  2. It's much nicer to have things that you actually had a hand in creating than something matchy from Rooms to Go!
